Kingsville Independent School District has focused on celebrating the great accomplishments of all students throughout the year. As KISD prepares to complete a successful first year of Early College High School Readiness, the district has already began to prepare incoming freshmen for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year.
On January 22, 2015, a team of Dual Enrollment Specialists from Coastal Bend College, lead by Beth Cuyler, met with eighth grade students at Memorial Middle School. The Dual Enrollment Specialists spoke to students on Coastal Bend College’s mission, vision, and the goals of a community college. They briefly introduced students to the process for college admission and the H.M. King Early College High School Program.
The Dual Enrollment Specialists also explained the college entrance requirements and the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) college placement exam for students in the State of Texas. The TSI is a state-legislated program designed to improve student success in college.
Prior to enrollment at H.M. King Early College High School, eight grade students at Memorial Middle School will be given the opportunity to enroll in a pre-exam review. Coastal Bend College has provided Memorial Middle School students with access to PLATO--a software program designed as a TSI Pre-Assessment Activity. Students will have their first opportunity to take the TSI Exam during the H.M. King ECHS Summer Bridge Program in June.
