Kleberg Elementary students visited the KIII TV 3 News Station on Thursday, November 20, 2014. Students who are currently participating in the Kleberg Eagle Yearbook Club, had the opportunity to explore the field of Journalism and its various components including; reporting, photo journalism, news production and news writing.
Mrs. Tanecia Washington, Kleberg Elementary Fourth Grade Teacher and Yearbook Club Sponsor, attended the educational field trip with the students.
“Students were able to connect their favorite subject in school to a career in journalism,” said Washington. “For example, if their favorite subject is history, they could explore a career as a reporter.”
The purpose of the trip was to provide these students with an opportunity to understand the journalism field and get a behind the scenes look at a news station and how it operates on a daily basis. Eighteen third and fourth grade students had the opportunity to tour the news station and visit the Domingo Live set.
“Students had the opportunity to participate in some on-camera fun with the green screen,” said Washington. “The students really had a wonderful time.”
Students gathered around the KIII TV 3 news anchors and meteorologist to ask questions regarding their educational path, daily tasks, and other general questions about being a journalist.
