The H.M. King High School Mighty Brahma Band has been doing great in their recent competitions. On Oct. 4 the band competed in the Deep River Marching Band contest in Rio Honda, Texas. They came out second in their division. On the same day, they traveled to La Joya, Texas and competed in the La Joya Marching Band contest and tied for second with Hidalgo.
On Oct. 11 the band traveled to Mathis and competed in the Lakeshore Marching Band contest. Out of all the 34 bands that competed in this contest the Brahma Band was selected as the Overall Grand Champion of the contest.
“I am very pleased with the work our students are doing on their Marching Band Shows this year,” said Brahma Band Director, Rolando Molina.
Aside from receiving first place in the 4A Division, our Band Drum Majors received first place and our Drum line received first place runner-up.
Drum Majors for the Mighty Brahma Band are: Youca Canales, Armando Gonzalez, and Samantha Gonzalez.
The band is looking forward to making a run at a State Play-off on Saturday October 25th in Calallen. All the 4A bands in South Texas will compete at this contest. The Brahma Band has advanced to State 12 times in recent years.
“We are looking forward to our next competitions.” said Molina. “We are really hoping to make a run at a performance at the state marching contest. I think if we keep improving the way we have been improving we are going to make it.”
